What's the difference between a floor and a ceiling?

The floor is your minimum price: priceq never proposes a price below it. The ceiling is the highest price it will propose. Whatever a pricing goal works out, priceq moves the result back inside these two limits before it reaches your list.
The minimum price
priceq makes no proposal at all for a product without a minimum price. You set it on Strategy, together with the goal. When you open a row, choose what the minimum price is floor based on:
- cost price: your cost price plus the percentage you enter.
- your selling price: your current selling price minus the percentage you enter.
Press Save and the minimum price is written to every product in that row, for example "Set on 40 of 212 products. Saving applies it to all 212." Products without a cost price are skipped when the minimum is based on the cost price. You then see "Rule saved, minimum price not set." Import your cost prices with Import costs, or switch to your selling price.
For a single blocked product, fill in Minimum price (€) in the panel on Repricing. See Why is my product blocked?
When priceq knows your cost price, the real floor is the higher of your minimum price and your cost price, plus the margin of a Protect my margin rule. A proposal never goes below your cost price.
Setting a minimum price needs the Supervisor or Admin role.
The ceiling
There is no field in the app to type a ceiling. It comes from two places:
- A maximum price column in a product file import. See Import products from a file.
- The MSRP, but only for products that come from a file import. For products synced from your webshop, the MSRP is never used as a ceiling.
The lower of the two counts. With neither, there is no ceiling.
What you see in a proposal
A proposal that would cross a limit is not dropped. priceq moves it to the limit and shows the step under "why this price" as Minimum price or Ceiling, with the price before and after. When the minimum price is higher than the ceiling, there is no proposal: "No suggestion: your minimum price is above your ceiling."
The daily limit
priceq also limits how far a price moves in one day: 20% up or down from the price the product had at the start of the day. That limit works inside the floor and ceiling. It never pushes a price past either of them.
